GLACIER POINT | YOSEMITE WEDDING LOCATION

Wedding couple at sunrise at Glacier Point with Half Dome, Vernal Falls, and Nevada Falls Below

Glacier Point offers some of the most spectacular views in the park by far. It’s accessible from late May/June through October/November (typically after Memorial Day and until the first significant snow of the winter), but it offers space for larger weddings in the amphitheater (June and September only) as well as small intimate weddings and elopements in many out of the way areas. While it’s a heavily trafficked location, with someone in-the-know to guide you it’s easy to find some solitude (I’m that guy!). Timing is the most important factor here. Sunrise is absolutely glorious as the sun pops up from behind Half Dome, and if you can handle the early morning preparations, a weekday ceremony at sunrise offers the most amazing of experiences – best views, best parking, smallest crowds. There is a large parking lot, but it can easily fill early in the day making an afternoon or evening wedding extra difficult. If the lot is full, cars are generally held down at the bottom of Glacier Point Rd (about 20 minutes away) until parking frees up.

NOTE: 2020 may be the last chance for a wedding at Glacier Point for a while. After the road closes with the snow in 2020, the road will remain closed the entirety of the 2021 season while they rehabilitate the road and upgrade the parking facilities at the Taft Point/Sentinel Dome trailhead. Assuming the road reopens in 2022, they’re anticipating continued long delays. Of course if you’re down to hike it, it will remain an option, but the hikes to access Glacier Point are some of the most strenuous in the park.
